I sit here in disbelief. Today our family went to see our beloved New Orleans Saints play against the Minnesota Vikings. Dome field advantage. Wild Card play off game. OT. Huge upset over the loss.
Saints game is a unique experience. Its like going to a family reunion on game day. We meet up at Champions Square for some pre game festivities ππ
Saints fans greet each other with a big “Who Dat!”, high five each other, cheer together and gasp together. And today there was a lot of that going on.
Along with the noise level. Decibel levels got up to 126 π. We cheer LOUD, and we make LOUD distractions for the opposing team.
Two people over from my husband was a guy who gave me a dose of gratitude for my sobriety. While he was a seemingly harmless drunk, he was obnoxious. We would look at him and laugh and then wish he would just settle down. My husband said that I was just like that when I was drinking…. Who, me? No way! Yes, he assured me. Well, thank GOD I’m no longer that person. But credit to the drunk guy for his manners. After hearing one too many “F” bombs as the game escalated, I asked him to please watch his language. His response, “yes ma’am.”
So I sit here in disbelief that my New Orleans Saints Division Champs season came to an abrupt end, and that I was once “that guy”.
I also sit here in gratitude for an amazing Saints season with memories of a lifetime, made only possible by being sober to enjoy it.

Hard to push the like button after a Saints loss. I lived there in the 80’s when the fans wore bags over their heads. Congratulations, it takes a strong person to stay sober in New Orleans. But you’re worth it.

I feel your pain. When Clemson defeated Ohio State in the semifinals and earned a berth in the national championship game, I was bleeding scarlet over my gray sweatshirt. Waiting now for next season!
