10 Gifts of Sobriety

July 15, 2013, the day I took responsibility and chose to close the door on one chapter and rewrite my story which has taken my life down a path of healing and restoration. This day, marked the beginning of my sobriety journey. To commemorate this milestone, I’d like to take the opportunity to highlight ten valuable rewards as a result of embracing sobriety.

1. My Catholic faith is now strongly anchored. The more I practice it, the deeper the roots.

2. My family, my world. We discovered resilience and handled it with grit and grace. Stronger together.

3. Saying yes to nurturing and goodbye to sabotage.

4. Hello compassion, good bye shame.

5. Hello freedom, goodbye bondage.

6. Hello inner peace, goodbye emotional chaos.

7. Finding purpose. This continues to be a big one for me. I remind myself of Psalm 139:13-14: “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”

8. Improved mental and physical health. I am grateful for the health and fitness journey I embarked on in 2015 which has opened many doors, one of which is me actively pursuing my Kinesiology degree.

9. Stronger relationships. Find your tribe. Surrounding yourself with a likeminded community will make your journey easier.

10. To thine own self be true. There is no greater satisfaction than going to bed at night with a clear conscience and waking up in the morning with a clear mind.

The journey of sobriety is not without its challenges, but it’s a daily gift that keeps on giving. From self-discovery and improved relationships to physical and mental well-being, emotional sobriety, and finding purpose, sobriety offers a life of fulfillment and authenticity. These gifts have empowered me to live a life of freedom, paving the way for a brighter, more meaningful future.

I continue to share my sobriety to inspire others to embark on their own transformative journey toward a life of freedom, joy, and purpose. Change is possible and YOU are worth it.
