Here We Go Again… The name of Cher’s current tour which Steven took me to last Friday. Cher did NOT disappoint. WOW, at the age of 73 she still puts on quite a show.
My love for Cher goes all the way back to my childhood. The highlight of my Sunday evenings in the early 1970s was watching the Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. I LOVED the chemistry between them. When they ended, I turned my attention to Cher’s solo variety show. I’m smiling big right now just thinking about it. Beautiful memory.
I mean, what’s not to love about Cher. HER HAIR!!! Cher’s beautiful long black hair. Her fearless attitude about fashion, staying true to herself. Not only does she have a beautiful voice, she’s quite an actress, earning an Academy Award for Best actress in Moonstruck.
In 1976, I had the worst possible case of chicken pox. It was BAD. I had to stay home from school for nearly 2 weeks and my birthday fell during that time period. I remember the only thing I wanted for my 11th Birthday the new CHER doll. And I received it. My love and admiration for Cher brought me a sense of comfort during that time. However, I also remember feeling embarrassed because I felt like 11 was too old to want a doll, much less receive one. While I no longer have the doll, I wish I did since the memory holds a very special place in my heart.
I also had many of her albums growing up. Unfortunately, I only have this one in my possession.
Fast forward to the year of 1988. Steven and I had been dating a couple of years and a marriage proposal was in the works. We were living in Houston at the time, and Cher’s song Main Man had been released from her 18th studio album, Cher.
We LOVED her song. And what do you know, on the evening of May 20, 1988, as Main Man was playing on Steven’s fancy stereo, he proposed. Isn’t that romantic??? Check out the lyrics. They are so appropriate.
When was my first Cher concert? On June 23, 1999, Cher performed in New Orleans for her Do You Believe tour. My sister in law invited me to go with her and her Mom. I was in awe.
My next Cher concert was just as special. Steven took me and my Mom to Cher at the Colosseum during her residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in 2009. Another amazing concert with 2 very special people.
I’m so happy that Steven & I went to her concert last Friday night. Cher’s vocals are still strong and clear. Her wardrobe and wig changes still reflect her being true to herself. She is an incredible entertainer. Cher stole my heart when she sang I Got You Babe with Sonny on the big screen.
Have you ever thought of an event that gets better day by day? That is how I feel about Friday’s concert. The more I reflect on it, the better it gets.
From childhood to adulthood, I’m still in awe of Cher. And The Beat Goes On.

I haven’t seen Cher in concert and I didn’t have her doll, but I’m a fan for sure…back to Sonny and Cher and Moonstruck…Thanks for those memories.
