The first teacher that comes to mind was my high school Algebra teacher. I was a C-average student and I REALLY wanted to make the honor roll for the upcoming 9-weeks. I had never achieved it before and I expressed my goal with my teacher, Mrs. B. She worked with me and I accomplished it. I consider her my most influential teacher because she genuinely cared and wanted me to succeed. There’s something about someone who cares and believes in you when you don’t believe in yourself. As an adult I ran into her at a restaurant. I was SO excited to see her and I thanked her for “giving me” a B. She looked me square in the eyes and said she didn’t give me a B – I EARNED IT. So many years later, and she is still believes in me.
I took my experience with Mrs. B with me last semester when I was faced with taking college Algebra after a 39-year absence. I was terrified, but I was blessed with a wonderful, caring teacher, Dr. K. She stayed with me every step of the way, and like Mrs. B, she told me that I EARNED my B and she was so proud of me.
Every semester I have a stand out teacher who makes an impact in my education and life. I am forever grateful for all of the wonderful teachers who give of their time, support, and encouragement so freely. Their impact runs deep.
