On this 4th day of October, we celebrate St. Francis, the patron saint of the environment and animals because he had a deep love for all creatures.

A Blessing of Animals is a special way to show God’s and the Church’s love and care for creation.

Many people bring their pets to church to be blessed on St. Francis’ feast day, inspired by his love for animals as expressed in his Canticle of Creatures. You can also pray for and bless your pets and animals at home.

“Lord God, maker of all living creatures, we ask you to bless this pet. Enable it to live according to your plan through your love. May we always praise you for the beauty of all your creations. Amen.”
