What’s the trait you value most about yourself?
The trait I value most about myself is determination. It’s my driving force and has played a significant role in various aspects of my life, including my weight loss journey, fitness pursuits, and education.

In the area of education, this semester has proven to be my most challenging one yet, and it all boils down to facing my weakness: Algebra. Describing it as a rollercoaster of emotions would be an understatement. The first week of class felt like an impossible mountain, but just as I’ve tackled my health and fitness goals, I tapped into the available resources—my family, my tutor and teacher—and applied myself. I invested time and consistency to break Algebra down into bite size pieces.
My first test was filled with technology issues beyond my control, resulting in tears—lots of them. But I leaned on my support system, regrouped, and eventually took the test that night, earning a C. Yes, a C, and I couldn’t be prouder. I told my teacher that I’m only going up from there!!! This week presented another daunting mountain with my Algebra lessons. It felt impossible, and on Monday, I felt defeated, like a deer in the headlights, wanna cry type of day. However, I regrouped, rolled up my sleeves, and dove into the work. By Thursday, I had a breakthrough and felt like I was on fire when I met with my teacher. She expressed how she was impressed with my progress, my tutor was beaming and my family was cheering me on and so proud. Their encouragement meant the world to me.
When faced with a seemingly insurmountable challenge, I’ve learned to embrace all the emotions, rely on my support group, and then hit the reset button. It’s in those moments that my frustrations fuel my determination. That, my friends, is why I hold my determination in such high regard.
