August Adventures

Happy August! As we bid farewell to one month and welcome another, I’m excited about the adventures that lie ahead. This month holds two special things for me: traveling and going back to school!

Recently, my husband Steven retired, and we’re making the most of it by spending three weeks in our beloved Crested Butte, Colorado. We’ve been coming here since 2003, originally drawn by the skiing and a perfect escape from Louisiana’s Mardi Gras festivities.

Crested Butte is a charming mountain town nestled in the Rocky Mountains, known for its breathtaking natural beauty. It’s a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, offering skiing, snowboarding, sledding in the winter, and hiking, mountain biking, and fly fishing in the summer. The place is also famous as the Wildflower Capital of Colorado, and the home of the vibrant Wildflower Festival every July.

Although I stopped skiing after tearing my ACL in 2011, I fell in love with hiking after becoming an empty nester in 2013. There’s something incredibly therapeutic about immersing oneself in nature, especially when accompanied by our pups, Buster & Boomer. While we both enjoy exploring the hiking trails, Steven takes adventure to another level by indulging in mountain biking and fly fishing. We’re both eager to cover lots of beautiful terrain during our stay.

Once we return home, I’m looking forward to starting my 3rd semester of college. I’ve missed it over the summer and am grateful for the opportunity to continue my education. What started as an exciting and cautious venture in Fall 2022 has now turned into a committed journey. I’m determined to see it through!

To cap off the month of August, Steven and I have planned a trip to California to visit our son and his fiancé, along with attending a Foreigner concert. Nick & Christina, our gracious hosts, always have fun things planned for us when we visit. It may range from a night in playing board games together, where our competitive sides emerge, along with lots of laughter, to different activities like axe throwing or dining at a fancy restaurant! Since Foreigner is one of Steven’s all-time favorite bands, we couldn’t pass up the chance to see them perform in their area, especially since the song “Juke Box Hero” holds special meaning for him. This will be an experience of a lifetime, and I am so happy for Steven.

I’d love to hear about the adventures you have in store for this month!

Cheers to an Adventurous August!
