Last Fall, I made the decision to return to college and pursue a degree in Kinesiology with a focus on Health Promotion & Wellness. Back in the early 1980s, I attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, however, I never completed my studies. Now, my return to college serves two important purposes: fulfilling my desire to finish what I started and obtaining a bachelor’s degree in a field that I am truly passionate about.

As part of my curriculum, I was required to take a behavioral science elective and I chose Criminal Justice and Mental Health. One of our assignments was about the challenges faced by felons upon their release and reentry into society. This assignment opened my eyes to the difficulties convicted felons encounter, especially when it comes to finding employment. Many employers are hesitant to hire individuals with a criminal history, which creates a significant barrier to reintegrating into society successfully.

During my research for the assignment, I discovered a company called Dave’s Killer Bread.
